By the mercy of our spiritual master, HH Krishna Das Swami Maharaj, Dancing Ganesh is a small software business founded in 2009 by two devotees from Leicester UK, with little talent for book distribution. Instead, we decided to write software for reading Srila Prabhupada's books and to try to please Srila Prabhupada by distributing his books electronically. With inspiration and support from our Guru Maharaj and a number of senior devotees in ISKCON, and with permission from the BBT (to whom we gladly pass on the majority of the proceeds), we are now ready to launch that software.
The name of the business was inspired by a pilgrimage we made to the 4 dhams (holy places) in the Himalayas (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath), where we visited the ashram of Vyasadeva – the author of the ancient Indian scriptures, the Vedas – and the nearby abode of Ganesh. Ganesh was the scribe of Vyasadeva – he physically wrote down what Vyasadeva spoke. Similarly, sometimes we get the feeling when writing software that we're not really the ones thinking up what to write, we're merely the conduit that's actually doing the typing.
